In this article, we'll go over how the OptiDev add-on works, its pricing structure, and Free Trial information.
The OptiDev add-on lets you build custom, AI-powered apps and put them straight on your screens. This includes, but is not limited to, dashboards, directories, menus, and kiosks.
This article covers what it costs, what’s included each month, how the 14-day free trial works, and what happens when that trial ends.
What You'll Need
To get started with an OptiDev add-on, you’ll need:
- An OptiSigns account - Standard Plan or higher.
- Owner or Super Admin permissions.
- An OptiSigns-enabled device
- A screen, set up and paired with OptiSigns
Once the add-on is active, OptiDev is available from the OptiDev tab in your account. There’s nothing to install and nothing to configure.
OptiDev Capabilities
Describe the app you want in plain language and OptiDev builds it on your real data. Then you refine it by asking for changes. It covers four broad categories:
- Dashboards — Includes live sales figures, KPIs, production or support metrics.
- Kiosks and signage — interactive check-in, catalogs, self-service lookups, menus and price boards, directories and wayfinding.
- Internal tools — Schedulers, calendars, company databases, etc.
- External data — Connect to external APIs to pull any kind of data you can imagine.
Your apps use your own data. OptiDev connects to databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, BigQuery, Snowflake), spreadsheets (Google Sheets), and business tools including Stripe, HubSpot, Salesforce, Zendesk, Notion and Slack. A sales dashboard shows your real numbers instead of something you have to keep updating by hand.
Two things make OptiDev different from adding a normal asset:
- Apps go straight to your screens. Build one in the OptiDev tab and push it to your screens right away.
- Apps stay current. Change the project and every screen showing it picks up the change automatically. Nothing to re-upload, nothing to re-assign.
How add-on licenses work
OptiDev is sold in add-on licenses, and one add-on license covers one screen. Simple.
An add-on license does two things: it entitles a screen to show an OptiDev app, and it sizes your monthly allowances. More add-on licenses means more AI credits and more cloud balance. We'll discuss these in greater detail in the What's Included section of this article.
Your add-on licenses are counted separately from your OptiSigns screens, so you can have 3 OptiDev add-on licenses while running 20 screens on OptiSigns.
Pricing
OptiDev comes as a base package that includes 3 add-on licenses. To cover more screens, add licenses individually.

Paying annually saves around 10% compared with monthly.
OptiDev is billed as an add-on on your OptiSigns subscription, so it appears on the same invoice and renews on the same date as your plan. Adding it part-way through a billing period charges a prorated amount straight away for the rest of that period, then the full amount from your next renewal.
You’re billed in your account’s currency, and tax is added on top where it applies. You’ll always see the exact total in your own currency before you confirm.
What’s Included with an OptiDev Add-on License
Your add-on includes two separate allowances, and they do different jobs.
- AI Credits - These allow you to build your apps.
- Cloud Credits - These continuously run your app, in the background.
The simplest way to think about it: AI credits build the app, cloud balance keeps it running. Creating and refining an app uses AI credits. Once that app is published to a screen it stops using credits and draws on your cloud balance instead. The cloud balance is used by app refreshes.
AI credits
The base package includes 100 AI credits a month, plus 40 more for each additional add-on license. So 3 add-on licenses gives you 100 credits a month, 5 gives you 180, and 10 gives you 380.
In practice, 100 credits is enough to build about one polished interactive app in a month, or two to three simpler ones such as a dashboard or a directory.
A clear, specific first prompt goes a lot further than several vague ones, because every round of refinement uses credits too. Describing the data, layout and behavior you want up front is the best way to make your credits last.
Cloud Balance
Cloud balance comes with every add-on license, and each one includes enough to keep an app running on that screen around the clock. Three add-on licenses covers three screens each running an app continuously.
Apps that pull a lot of data or serve a lot of traffic use more, so one unusually heavy app can use more than a single license’s worth.
Allowances
Your AI credits and cloud balance ∫. They don’t roll over, so unused credits and balance don’t build up from one month to the next.
If you need more of either before the reset, you can top up inside OptiDev at any time. No plan change is needed.

If you use up an allowance
Your screens keep playing. Anything already published stays on screen and keeps running normally.
- Out of AI credits — you can’t build or refine apps until your allowance resets or you top up.
- Out of cloud balance — you can’t publish a new app or activate OptiDev Cloud on a project until you add funds.
Free Trial
The OptiDev add-on includes a 14-day free trial covering 3 screens. To start it, go to Billing and select Activate Trial on the OptiDev card.
A few things to know before you start it:
- The trial is one time per account. Once it’s been used it can’t be started again, even if you cancelled it before it ended. You can still buy the add-on at any time afterwards.
- You can start it during your OptiSigns free trial. Be sure to read the section below on what happens when the two trials overlap.
- If you have an OptiSigns Free Plan, you'll be prompted to upgrade to Standard first.
When the Trial Ends
Your trial converts to a paid add-on automatically. At the end of the 14 days we charge the payment method on your account, and OptiDev carries on without interruption.
- To keep OptiDev: do nothing. Billing starts automatically when the trial ends.
- To avoid being charged: cancel before the 14 days are up. There’s no charge if you cancel during the trial.

You can also end the trial early by buying the add-on from the Billing page. That’s worth doing if you need more than the 3 screens the trial covers, or if you want to make sure your add-on charge lands on a specific date.
If you’re still on your OptiSigns free trial when your OptiDev 14 days are up, there’s no subscription to bill yet, so OptiDev switches off instead of converting. To keep it, start your paid OptiSigns plan before your OptiDev trial ends.
If payment fails, the add-on is switched off rather than left running, and OptiDev access is removed. Update your payment method in Billing, then buy the add-on again to restore it. Your data will remain unchanged.
Adding and Removing Add-on Licenses
Change your add-on license count from the OptiDev card on the Billing page.
- Enable for all screens - Turn this on and your add-on license count follows your total OptiSigns screen count automatically. Add screens to your account later and your OptiDev coverage, and cost, follows with no separate action. Leave it off to keep OptiDev on a fixed number of screens.
You can’t reduce your license count below 3, or below the number of screens currently using OptiDev. Remove OptiDev from individual screens first, then lower the count.
Cancelling the OptiDev Add-on
Cancel OptiDev from the OptiDev section of the Subscription Plan page.
When you cancel:
- Billing stops, and any prorated credit appears on your next invoice.
- OptiDev access is removed from the account.
- Screens showing an OptiDev app stop showing it, and your published apps are paused — so plan to assign replacement content to those screens.
- Your OptiDev projects aren’t deleted.
