If you're in Japan, it can be helpful to be alerted of earthquakes so you'll know to be prepared. Our new Japan Earthquake app pulls the latest data from the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) and gives you the latest alerts directly to your screens.
Here's how to set it up.
What You'll Need
- An OptiSigns account - Pro Plus Plan or higher
- An OptiSigns-enabled device
- A screen, set up and paired with OptiSigns
Create a Japan Earthquake App
To set up a Japan Earthquake app, go to the Files/Assets tab, then click Apps on the left side of the screen:

Find and click on 地震情報 / Japan Earthquake.
Enter the details for your Earthquake alerts:
- Name - This is the name of your asset. It is for internal OptiSigns use and will not display on your screens.
- Regions - Choose which regions to show
- Minimum Intensity - Show the minimum intensity at which an earthquake will be reported.
- Language - Allows you to choose the languages you want to be displayed. Bilingual will be in English and Japanese.
- Layout - Lets you change your layout. Different options will be reflected on the Preview panel on the right of your screen.

Display Options
- History Window - Shows how long the earthquake alert will show in your history.
- Theme - Change between light and dark themes for your display.
- Show Preparedness Tips - Toggle to allow preparedness tips to display.
- Refresh Interval - How often the Earthquake Alert app will refresh measured in seconds. When used in a playlist, it will refresh each time it is loaded.
Deploying a Japan Earthquake App
You can deploy your new Japan Earthquake app as an individual asset, or as part of a Split Screen.
To get your new asset to a screen, go to the Screens tab, then click the screen you want to assign it to.

This brings us to the Edit Screen tab:

Here, select Asset under Content type. If you already have an Asset, Playlist, or Schedule selected, you can hit Change.
Then, select your created Japan Earthquake Asset:
Now hit Save. Your Japan Earthquake asset will now display on screen.
