How to Use the Twitch App – OptiSigns

In this article, we'll show how to display live Twitch streams on your digital signs with OptiSigns.

Twitch is home to far more than game streaming. Channels cover music, talk shows, sports, creative work and live classes. With the Twitch app, it's possible to play any public Twitch channel on your digital signs, with or without the live chat beside it.

Let's get started.

What You'll Need

An OptiSigns account - Standard Plan or higher
The link to the Twitch channel you want to display
An OptiSigns-enabled device
A screen, set up and paired with OptiSigns (see our Getting Started guide)

Creating a Twitch App

First, go to twitch.tv and open the channel you want to display. Copy the channel's address from your browser's address bar, for example https://www.twitch.tv/twitch.

Next, go to the OptiSigns portal. Go to Files/Assets and select Apps.

Search for Twitch and select the Twitch app.

The Twitch app settings will open. Fill in the following:

Name - The name of your Twitch asset. This is for organizational purposes within OptiSigns only and will not display on your screens.
Twitch URL - The channel address you copied in the first step.
Theme - Light Theme or Dark Theme. This mainly changes the look of the chat box.
Chat Box - Shows the channel's live chat next to the stream. It's on by default; turn it off to play the stream full screen.

Now hit Save. You'll have created a Twitch app, and it will appear in your Files/Assets.

Deploying a Twitch App

To push your Twitch app to a screen, go to the Screens tab, then click Edit next to the screen you want to display it on.

The Edit Screen pop-up will appear. Select Asset under Content Type, then hit Change next to Selected Asset.

The Select Asset window will open. Search for your Twitch app, click it, then hit Select.

Back in Edit Screen, hit Save. Your Twitch stream will now play on your screen.

Your Twitch app can also be displayed in a Playlist or Schedule, or as one zone of a Split Screen.
