In this article, we'll show how to calibrate your screen when images and content are cut off at the edges, on Windows, Mac, Linux and Raspberry Pi players and on Amazon Fire TV.
If the edges of your images or content are cut off, your TV is zooming the picture slightly. This is called overscan. You can fix it by calibrating the screen, either in the OptiSigns app or in your device's settings.
Which Fix Applies to You
- Windows, Mac, Linux and Raspberry Pi - Calibrate from the OptiSigns app's side menu. See Calibrate on Windows, Mac, Linux and Raspberry Pi.
- Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K - Calibrate from the Fire TV's own settings. See Calibrate on Amazon Fire TV.
- Fire TV HD and other devices - There's no calibration setting on the device. Use your TV's settings instead. See Check Your TV's Settings.
Calibrate on Windows, Mac, Linux and Raspberry Pi
On the screen running OptiSigns, click the three-bar menu button in the top-right corner to open the app's side menu.
Click Calibrate Display.
The calibration screen opens and asks whether the tips of the arrows touch the edge of your display. Drag the horizontal and vertical sliders until all four arrows sit right at the edges of the screen. You can also click an arrow to move that edge in steps.
When you're done, click Apply. Click Cancel to leave without changing anything.
TIP
The switch next to Calibrate Display shows whether calibration is on. Turn it off to go back to the normal, uncalibrated size.
Calibrate on Amazon Fire TV
You can calibrate the display on a Fire TV Stick 4K. If the arrows on the calibration screen don't reach the edges, Fire TV shows this message:
On the Fire TV home screen, go to Settings on the top bar, then select Display & Sounds.
Select Display.
Select Calibrate Display. On the calibration screen, press up and down on your remote until the arrows are completely visible, then select Accept.
NOTE
The Fire TV HD can't calibrate its display. See Check Your TV's Settings instead.
For everything else about running OptiSigns on a Fire TV, see How to Set Up OptiSigns on Amazon Fire TV.
Check Your TV's Settings
Many TVs zoom the picture by default. Look in your TV's picture settings for an option such as picture size, aspect ratio, zoom, overscan, Just Scan or Screen Fit, and set it so the full picture shows. This fixes the problem for any device plugged into the TV.
That’s all!
