How to Use the Asana App – OptiSigns

In this article, we'll show how to display your Asana projects on your digital signs with OptiSigns.

With the Asana app, it's possible to display your team's Asana projects on your digital signs. Keep tasks, deadlines and project progress in front of everyone, in the office, on the shop floor or in the break room, and let the screen refresh itself as the project changes.

Let's get started.

What You'll Need

An OptiSigns account - Standard Plan or higher
An Asana account, with access to the project you want to display
An OptiSigns-enabled device
A screen, set up and paired with OptiSigns (see our Getting Started guide)

Creating an Asana App

First, open the Asana project you want to display at app.asana.com. Copy the full address of the project from your browser's address bar.

NOTE

The OptiSigns Asana app only accepts an app.asana.com link that ends in a number. If the address you paste ends in a word such as /list or /board, the app shows Please enter a valid Asana's URL and you won't be able to save.

Next, go to the OptiSigns portal. Go to Files/Assets and select Apps.

Search for Asana and select the Asana app.

The Asana app settings will open. Fill in the following:

Name - The name of your Asana asset. This is for organizational purposes within OptiSigns only and will not display on your screens.
URL - The Asana project address you copied in the first step.
Update Interval - How often the app checks Asana for updates, measured in seconds. The default is 600 (every 10 minutes). Set it to 0 to check only when the app first loads.

Now hit Save. You'll have created an Asana app, and it will appear in your Files/Assets.

IMPORTANT

If your Asana project is private, the screen will show the Asana sign-in page the first time it plays. Sign in once on the device and choose to remember your login. On devices without a keyboard, such as a Fire TV Stick, connect a Bluetooth keyboard or mouse to sign in. For more detail, see How to display content inside websites that require login.

Deploying an Asana App

To push your Asana app to a screen, go to the Screens tab, then click Edit next to the screen you want to display it on.

The Edit Screen pop-up will appear. Select Asset under Content Type, then hit Change next to Selected Asset.

The Select Asset window will open. Search for your Asana app, click it, then hit Select.

Back in Edit Screen, hit Save. Your Asana project will now display on your screen.

Your Asana app can also be displayed in a Playlist or Schedule, or as one zone of a Split Screen.
