In this article, we'll explain what the offline indicator shows on your screens and how to turn it on from the OptiSigns portal or on the device.
- What You'll Need
- Turn On the Offline Indicator in the Portal
- Turn On the Offline Indicator on the Device
- Troubleshooting
When a screen loses its internet connection, OptiSigns keeps playing the content it has cached and skips anything that needs to be online, such as YouTube videos. Your viewers can't tell that anything is wrong.
If your screen shows live content that always needs the internet, such as dashboards, turn on the offline indicator. The screen then shows a small Device is offline badge whenever it has no network connection.
| NOTE |
| The indicator appears about 1 minute after the connection drops. The delay stops brief network blips from showing it. |
What You'll Need
- A paired screen
- A device that supports the offline indicator - the setting isn't offered on Roku, BrightSign, LG webOS Signage and embedded devices
Turn On the Offline Indicator in the Portal
Go to Screens, find the screen and click Edit. In the Edit Screen dialog, click Advanced, check Show Offline Indicator, and click Save.
The setting is off by default, and you turn it on for each screen separately.
Turn On the Offline Indicator on the Device
You can also turn it on at the device itself. Open the OptiSigns side menu, go to Advanced Options and turn on Show Offline Indicator.
Troubleshooting
Here are some of the more common questions and issues you might face with the Offline Indicator feature, and their solutions.
Show Offline Indicator Is Missing From Edit Screen
The device doesn't support the offline indicator. It isn't offered on Roku, BrightSign, LG webOS Signage and embedded devices.
The Indicator Doesn't Appear Right Away
The indicator waits about 1 minute after the connection drops before it appears. If the connection comes back within that minute, it doesn't appear at all.
That’s all!
