In this article, we will explain how to activate the Remote Control feature on Windows, Linux, or Raspberry Pi devices.
The Remote Control feature allows you to take control of the OptiSigns app directly from the portal. This allows for easy troubleshooting and identification of any issues from one centralized location.
NOTE |
The Remote Control feature is only available to subscribers with a Pro Plus plan or above. |
How It Works
When activated, optisigns-remote-agent will be installed on the device. This is an independent app from OptiSigns Digital Signage Player, which means that, even if there are issues affecting the OptiSigns Player, you can still troubleshoot by controlling your device remotely.
How to Enable the Remote Control Feature
OptiSigns Devices
Certain OptiSigns devices, including the Android Stick Player, come with the OptiSigns Remote Agent pre-installed. Simply enable the Remote Control feature by looking under the Advanced tab in the Edit Screen menu.
Windows, Linux, or Raspberry Pi Devices
- For Windows, please follow our guide on installing and activating the OptiSigns Remote Agent on Windows.
- For Linux or Raspberry Pi, keep reading. The OptiSigns Remote Agent should be activated automatically. For manual activation, please follow our guide on installing and activating OptiSigns Remote Agent on Linux or Raspberry Pi.
To get started, click Edit Screen → Advanced → More → Activate.
It will take a moment to activate (15-30 seconds) to download & install the agent, depending on your internet connection.
Once set up, in the Edit Screen Modal, Advanced section, click the Open button.
Clicking on this button will open a new window with a remote session for you to control, and troubleshoot your device.
If activation fails for some reason, usually the user/account running OptiSigns Digital Signage Player does not have enough authorization to install a new app or run background services, or it could be a network firewall issue preventing downloading the optisigns-remote-agent app. You'll need to try and manually download the OptiSigns Remote Agent.
You can also hit Deactivate to remove the Agent from your device.
That's all!
